Library casts

The casts hanging on the Library wall are made from plaster of paris and are pretty heavy.

Today scientists use a rapidly setting silicon, which is easier to work with and causes no damage to the tracks.

In the field, after the scientists carefully clean the tracks, they apply the silicon to the surface of the rock (The UQ Dino Lab uses a bright pink one, which is easier to clean up afterwards).

Once set, the silicon is carefully peeled off, the rocks are cleaned and then it’s back to the Dino Lab sandpit (yep they have a sandpit….. ) where casts are made, and that’s another story.
